Delivering efficiencies and cost savings throughout the project’s lifecycle

This year’s BIM Conference has now passed. Register your interest to gain regular updates to the 2016 event. Please note the date and location is still to be confirmed.

This year’s BIM Conference attracted over 250 delegates at our largest conference to date around the BIM arena. Attendees gained clear guidance from experts on how BIM is used on projects, in various sectors, and their experiences of implementing BIM in practice. Attendees were able to assess where the real benefits of BIM lie and how the QS, FM and operational sectors can seize the opportunities BIM offers.

The day will highlighted lessons learnt from implementation and the role of BIM in supporting the operation of an asset. Industry experts, advancing the use of BIM, lead sessions in two break-out streams with sessions focused on strategy, management of data, processes, value and future developments in BIM.

Highlights included:

  • A digital take-off on an entire BIM model in real-time, examining how the QS can exploit BIM to unlock more efficient ways of working; validating the extracted data and how to utilise these information sets including 4D cash flow simulations
  • Clients’ BIM journeys – attendees were able to identify where the client sees value in BIM and what clients expect to see as a minimum requirement on different projects
  • There was an international perspective of implementing BIM in infrastructure with case studies on international collaboration and developing effective strategies
  • BIM Vendor Showcase part two – expanding on last year’s findings software vendors produced an estimate of maintenance and repair costs of a particular floor of RICS HQ for the next 10, 20 and 30 years. Attendees were able to see how the BIM model was used, the variance in results and the importance of employing standards such as NRM 3.
